Printing Specifications

These guidelines are intended to improve awareness of successful digital art file preparation methods and to convey optimal characteristics for submitted digital art files. By observing recommended specifications, a greater opportunity to use original submitted digital art files can be expected.

ARTWORK:

Digital color files must be submitted in CMYK mode. Digital art files should be cropped to remove non-printing borders (such as unnecessary white space around an image). Art should be created or scaled to the size intended for print. Image orientation should be the same as intended for print.

FILE FORMATS:

  • Photoshop (.psd, .tiff, .eps, .pdf)
  • Illustrator (.eps, .ai, .pdf)
  • InDesign (.eps, .indd, .pdf)
  • Freehand (.fh, .eps)
  • Corel (eps, .tiff, NO.cdr files)

*Always leave 1/2” border (Full bleeds cost extra)

FONTS:

To avoid font problems convert all text to paths, curves or outlines (vector art). If this is not possible, send in both screen & printer Type 1 fonts used for the art to be printed. BE SURE TO LIST ALL FONT NAMES USED. Include the screen and printer font files for any text that has been added to the figure. PC or Macintosh versions of Adobe PostScript fonts should be used. Do NOT use TrueType fonts. Do NOT use system “bitmap” fonts.
